Farne Lighthouse was built on the Farne Islands in 1811 to the design of Daniel Alexander, it is a cylindrical white tower with lighthouse keepers' cottages to the rear. It was converted to solar powered operation in 1996.

The tower is 13 m (43 ft) tall with a range for the white light of 10 nautical miles (19 km; 12 mi) and the Red 7 nmi (13 km; 8.1 mi).
