Hostels to Apartments: Four Cheap Accommodations for Travelers

Travelers these days don’t have to accept the first accommodations they find. With so much competition for your business, even if you’re traveling on a budget, you can find a range of accommodation options to suit your needs.

Cheap Accommodations for Travelers

1. Hostels

Once the staple accommodation for students, now hostels cater to people from a wider variety of backgrounds. Backpackers and youth have relied on cheap hostels since the 1990s, although some were more or less safe and clean. Now booking sites and rating sites for hostels have made hostels more accountable for the service they provide, and competition has sprung up. This can only be a good thing for travelers, who now have better accommodations, a choice between hostels, and even extra services.

2. Bed and Breakfasts

While not as cheap as a hostel, bed and breakfasts have better service and, of course, better food! They have more of a “home” feeling than hotels and hostels, making them perfect for the occasional traveler who is wary to set foot in an impersonal lodging house.

3. Boutique Hotels

Online booking sites have been a boon to travelers looking for cheap hotel rooms, and small boutique hotels have started to cater to the budget-minded audience. Their individuality allows them to offer cheap room prices and a unique-feeling hotel, rather than the “same old standard” feeling most hotels give.

4. Apartments

If you’re traveling with a group and looking for a cheap accommodation option for all of you without the risk of not having enough available rooms, an apartment is the perfect answer. Especially with a group of friends, an apartment feels much more welcoming and “home-y” than does a hotel or hostel, and if you’re staying longer than a few days, it’s more economical to rent an apartment for the time.

No matter what your budget and accommodation preferences, these days, you can find a comfortable place to stay without breaking the bank.
