Top 10 Destinations in September

You can still travel a lot in September, with the big advantage of small prices. The peak season is off, and during the transition season (autumn in the northern hemisphere, and spring in the southern) you can save a lot of money.

With kids going back to school, and me exhausted after a very tiring summer, I find autumn to be my favorite season for romance.

Here are 10 wonderful destinations you must do in September.

1. The Greek islands.

The prices are much lower, the water still good for bathing, and you are next to the Gods. You have a big choice of smaller or bigger islands (Corfu, Santorini, etc )

3. Paris. La Ville Lumiere

Paris. La Ville Lumiere is magnetic as ever, and the colors brought by Autumn make it even more beautiful. If you are from one of the 27 EU countries and 25 years old or younger you won’t have to pay for most of the museums & attractions (Notre Dame, Louvre, Orsay). Book in advance, and do not expect something cheap in Paris.

4. Croatia.

After the devastating recent wars, Croatia recovered very fast, becoming the tourist destination of the decade. Dubrovnik and the seaside are remarkable. The weather is great, rain doesn’t come often in Dubrovnik and since the summer rush is over you can take a few-hours-walk to enjoy the autumn colors anytime. Don’t miss the famous Orlando’s Pillar, Dubrovnik’s symbol of freedom, which is located in the geometric center of the city. You can also find some food specialties (pancakes filled with Dubrovnik bitter oranges jam yum!). And if you like the countryside, the Elaphite Islands is an untouched oasis not far from Dubrovnik.

Fascinating beaches and resorts, friendly people, luxury prices. Not for budget travelers. If you are worried about hurricanes, you must know that the hurricane season isn’t too bad on the North Coast. The South Coast gets hit more often.

10. Egypt.

Always crowded and expensive, but if you are lucky you can get some discounts. The resorts from the Red Sea are fantastic for diving and snorkeling. You can also take a tour of the Nile (check the legend of the river). Used to be higher on our list, but due to the recent events with Mubarak there is a high level of insecurity and there are chances for terrorist attacks to occur. I will continue to update you on this situation.
